Hurco (Humston Roch Company) was formed in 1968 by Gerald Roch and Edward Humston. Humston was the “business guy” while Roch was the foresighted one who realized already then that computer technology could be utilized in manufacturing to make it more efficient. At the time, this idea was revolutionary, especially since computers were expensive and only used in large corporations, government agencies, and universities. In 1969 the AutoBend was exhibited at the Manufacturing Show at the Indianapolis Coliseum followed by the invention of Compu-Cut, a 2-axis shearing machine. Roch’s most significant patents were for interactive control technology also known as conversational programming.
Since then Hurco has continued to develop technology in order to build machine tools that will improve as well as simplify manufacturing processes and the parts manufactured. The Hurco CNC machine control is the most versatile in the industry. All of their machining centers, including 5-axis vertical, vertical, and horizontal machines, boring mills, and turning centers, are designed to maximize productivity for their customers.
